The stripes change colour depending on the exams you take. The exams to get each “khat” (level) are divided in three different categories:

White Stripe: you must show your technical level in the form
Green Stripe: you must show what you learnt in fighting

Red Stripe: you must be able to teach, that is your form and fighting have been brought to perfection

During the green stripe’s exams, you are supposed to fight vs a number of opponents, equivalent to the number of your level; for instance, a third “khat’s” exam is vs three opponents. Except the last exam of fighting: you must walk through a tunnel formed by thirtyfive people, standing on a queue one in front of each other, and to ward off their strokes.

The white colour of the shawl represents the philosopy of pureness, of peace and understanding of soul and capability of receiving the colour, that is the entrance into the step of change. It is the beginning of the new world, in which we have to give speed to our movement and movement to our stillness. It is discipline of social life and the birth of Reason. The back side of all the shawls is red, because all the “kungfukaran” (practitioners) need the red shawl’s guidance.

Green shawl - Rahdan

The shawl’s green colour represents the return to the world of nature and thus the elimination of false needs. The green shawl must be conscious of his own task: this step represents the achievement of a better control of all of the body’s parts, even of the ones that weren’t felt yet with consciousness. The green shawl marks the arrival at one of the highest moment in the way of Kung Fu, a moment alike to an ocean in which many rivers flow. It is the moment in which the seeds sown into the soil spring up and bear as fruit thousands of other seeds, which grow and turn green too. The green shawl is the link with society and with its low and weak classes: he waters the tree of society with his knowledge and his wiseness, in order to make it grow and turn green like himself. He is a guide for the people, that’s why he must know his own duties properly and put them into practice.

This colour attracts the energy of light and thus also represents the capability of movement and thought (thought itself is movement) without waste. The black shawl marks the passage beyond the border of darkness and ignorance and it is like a flood towards the world of the unknown, the secrets and the powers of the earth, the power and the physiology of the universe. Red shawl - Rahbar

Red is the colour of blood. Men can belong to different races and their skin can have different colours but everybody’s blood is red. The blood which flows in the veins is tha energy of man.
The red shawl is the expression of Power in the Way of wiseness along the path towards the world of meaning, in timeless time.
By the “Faculty of Body and Soul”, established by Professor
Ibrahim Mirzaii, obtaining the red shawl means reaching the seven “Maigah”. The first six Maigah, fundamental to complete a human being, are about the science of physiology, medicine, psychology, philosophy, physics, chemistry, mathematics and eventually the knowledge of the soul.
The seventh “maigah” characterizes the stage of the evolution of thought until its highest capability of understanding and let thought itself reach its maximum speed. The red shawl enters the world of the unknown, transcending the Self, he gets into the universe of mind, goes through the world of creation and looks for the secret of existence. He finds out the laws that rule the relations between macrocosmos and microcosmos; he studies the influence of cosmic rays and the influence of intergalactical weights on the nervous system and takes advantage of this source of energy with the maximum speed.
Due to respect towards the unique abilities of Gran Master Ibrahim Mirzaii, in Kung Fu Toa nobody else wears the red shawl.
